Western Maryland Directions

Below are directions to most of the training sites. These directions were provided by the sites, so please contact us or the school itself if you need more information or directions from a different reference point. Participants familiar with the internet can also access fairly accurate directions from your home location by visiting www.mapquest.com, following their link to “driving directions” and entering the school's address.

From the Baltimore-Washington, D.C. region:
Take I-70 west to Hancock, take left-hand exit to I-68 to Cumberland, proceed west approximately 35 miles to the Willowbrook Road exit (EXIT 44). Turn left onto Willowbrook Road and proceed one mile to campus, on left.

Directions once you are on the campus:
Continue past the continuing education building on your right, bear right, a large parking area is on the left. Turn into this parking area, continue through the parking lot, parking near the gym. If the training is in the Gilpin room: Once you exit your car follow the side walk up past the science building to the student center building. The Gilpin Room is in the lower level of this building.

From Interstate 68, Exit at EXIT 42, Route 220 South. There are signs for the fairgrounds. Continue on Route 220 South, go approximately 2.5 miles, turn left onto Moss Avenue. (this is directly after Shooters Restaurant) Continue on Moss Ave. for less than 1/2 mile crossing the railroad tracks onto the Allegany County Fair property. Turn right and continuing following the road around to the multi-purpose building which will be on your left. This is a new large white building with a brick front. Parking can be on either side of the building.

From Points West:
From I-68 East, take the Vocke Road exit (Exit 40) toward US-220-Truck S / La Vale. Take the ramp toward Campground Road (LESS than .1 miles). Turn left onto MD-658 N / Vocke Rd / Campground Rd. Continue to follow Campground Rd. Turn slight right onto US-40 ALT / National Hwy. Turn left onto Long Dr. Long Dr. becomes Cash Valley Rd SW.

Continue on Rt. 220 South, go through the light at Warrior Drive, pass a Sheetz store on your left, and continue up the hill. Turn left onto Winchester Rd. (signal light at the top of a hill). Drive two blocks, turn left onto 6th Ave. The school is on the right.

From I-68 E/ US-40 E toward Cumberland: Take the National Pike/ MD-144 exit 56 toward Flintstone. After .2 miles turn left ont MD-144/ National Pike NE. Flintstone will be 4.9 miles ahead.

From Rt. 68 take exit 34 (MD-36 N/ New George's Creek Rd.). Head toward Frostburg/ US ALT 40. At the light turn left onto E. Main St./ US ALT 40 (McDonald's on the right). Travel E. Main St. about 1.5 miles. Turn right at the blinking light (onto Armstrong Ave.). Turn left onto Delano Ave./ Delano St. Turn right onto Shaw St. The school sits at the end of Shaw St. At the stop sign turn left into the parking lot.

George's Creek Elementary

From I-270 North: Go 30 miles north on I-270. Merge onto I-70 West via exit 32 toward Hagerstown. Merge onto I-68 West/ US-40 via exit 1A on the left towards Cumberland. Take the MD-36 S. exit 34 toward Westernport. Turn left onto MD-36 S./ New George's Creek Road SW. Continue to follow MD-36 S.

From Cumberland: Take I-68 W to exit 34, Rt. 36, toward Westernport. Turn left on Rt. 36 S. Follow Rt. 36 S. to George's Creek Elementary (approx. 6-7 miles). The school will be on the left.

From Grantsville: Take I-68 E to exit 34, Rt. 36 toward Westernport. Turn right onto Rt. 36 S. Follow Rt. 36 S. to George's Creek Elementary (approx. 6-7 miles). The school will be on the left.

Exit Interstate 68 coming from East or West at Exit 43B, Industrial Blvd. Continue on Industrial Bld. to Virginia Ave. turn right onto Virginia Ave. At this intersection there is Hank's Pharmacy and an Exxon Station. Once you turn right you will go under train tracks, past CSX rail company. Continue on Virginia Ave. to Mary Street. Turn left on Mary Street. John Humbird School is on the left side of Mary Street, approx. one and a half blocks on Mary Street. There is no parking lot, parking is on the streets near the school.

Traveling westbound on I-68: Take the first Frostburg exit...EXIT 34. Turn right onto Rt.36. Make an immediate left onto Cherry Lane *a landmark will be a sign for “Pritchard Farms”—new homes. At the stop sign make a Right onto 936. Travel approximately a half mile and make a Right onto Graham Street (there’s a small sign here for Maplehurst Country Club). Follow Graham St. up the hill as it will lead you directly into the Golf Course and Clubhouse.

Traveling eastbound on I-68: Take the last Frostburg exit...EXIT 34.
Turn left onto Rt. 36. Pass overtop of I-68 and follow directions above.

Continue straight on Lamont, going through an intersection (flashing yellow light) and continue up the hill. This road is now Oldtown Rd. Pass St. Mary’s Church on your left. Turn right onto South St. Continue to 2nd St and turn left. The school is on the left.

Take Exit 44, Willowbrook Rd. towards Allegany College of Md. Pass ACM on the left, continue to Williams Rd. Turn right on Williams Rd. Go up hill to Greenway Ave. Turn left on Greenway, pass Ft. Hill High School. Continue on Greenway, this street changes names as it rounds a corner, the name becomes Kentucky. Stay on Kentucky to Massachusetts Ave. Turn left, this is a one way street. Washington Middle School is at the top of the hill.
